MBS bit the bullet this year and headed for what can only be described as a "very large exhibition!" Intergeo is held in a different German city every year and provides a vast array of survey related hardware and software showcased by several hundred exhibitors.
David Maltby and Andy Roberts attended for a few days mid week and thoroughly enjoyed themselves. The effort (and money) that some exhibitors put into their exhibition stands is quite amazing - but so are the results e.g. Topcon had a full stage complete with live band!.
However, the networking and social side of events such as this are as important if not more so than the exhibitions themselves - and this was the main attraction for us. This industry is small and relationships created at large industry events such as this can lead to long term business benefits. David and Andy bumped into a multitude of friends and clients over the two days they were there.
The highlight was the Wednesday evening which started at 5pm with an invitation to the Leica stand, along with around 300 other people to drink as much of Leica's beer as possible! 3 hours later the "slightly chatty" pair headed into Munich to gate-crash the RICS dinner in the city centre.
Once we were arrived we were welcomed by James Kavanagh and encouraged to again drink more beer with some great friends, such as Malcolm Draper, Alan Thunhurst, Simon Barnes, Nick Day (thanks for the photographs), John Brock and Stephen Booth, to name a few. Thanks to James and the RICS for their hospitality.
Roll on Intergeo 2007 which will be held in Leipzig between the 25th and 27th September!
