Hellidon Lakes was the venue for the first TSA discussion
group of 2005. The main guest speaker was Brian Logan, chairman of Earth
Data a US company specialising in remote sensing, mapping, and GIS.
Brian gave a good insight as to how MAPPS (an equivalent organisation to the
TSA which operates in the US) has successfully raised the awareness of its
membership through aggressive lobbying.
What became apparent from the discussion group was that most
of the attendees were from companies that are represented on the TSA
council. Between MBS & MLS, we accounted for nearly 10% of the
audience! It was generally accepted that more member companies should
be encouraged to attend in order to see the great PR work that is being
undertaken on their behalf, together with the large benefits that can be gained from TSA
membership.
Following the discussion group, members met in the dining
suite for a champagne reception, sponsored by Alexander Forbes Professions,
followed by a 3-course dinner and guest comedian Martin Gold (previously a
support comic for the likes of Ken Dodd & Les Dawson). The evening was also timed to wish Nick Granger a happy
retirement. At the end of March Nick steps down as Secretary General
of the TSA, a position he has held for many years to be replaced
by Tom Doherty. Nick has been instrumental in the growth and success
of the TSA and everyone at MBS & MLS wish him the very best for the future.
The event was attended by over 60 members and their guests
and lasted well into the early hours of the morning.
